The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 295/35ZR21 107Y XL tire is for the Tesla Model Y 21x10.5" rear Uberturbine factory wheel.
Michelin’s Pilot Sport 4S is a Max Performance Summer tire engineered with input from top automakers—including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche—and informed by technologies proven in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It’s built for drivers who want to extract the most from sports cars, performance sedans, and high-powered luxury vehicles. The tire delivers strong grip and control in warm dry and wet conditions, but like all Max Performance Summer tires, it isn’t meant to be used, stored, or serviced in near- or below-freezing temperatures, or driven on snow or ice.
Premium Touch sidewall (select sizes): Some Pilot Sport 4S sizes feature Michelin’s Premium Touch treatment, a velvet-effect, checkered sidewall created with advanced laser technology to enhance the tire’s appearance. These versions are marked on the Specs page and in search results.
Tread design and compounds: The Pilot Sport 4S uses an asymmetric tread with two adjacent compounds derived from endurance racing. A low-void outer shoulder uses a dry-focused hybrid rubber to improve dry handling and braking versus the prior generation, while the center ribs and inner shoulder use a silica-rich wet compound to enhance wet braking. Michelin’s Variable Contact Patch 3.0—developed through computer modeling—helps spread pressure more evenly during cornering, reducing hot spots and improving wear during aggressive driving.
Construction: Inside, the tire uses twin steel belts topped with a spirally wound hybrid reinforcement. This aramid/nylon layer provides high strength with low weight to support high-speed stability, durability, and wear. By fine-tuning the cord layout, Michelin balances tension and strength, while a single-ply polyester casing helps blend ride comfort with quick steering response.
Acoustic Technology (limited sizes): Some sizes include Michelin Acoustic Technology, which adds a sound-absorbing foam layer to the inner liner to reduce cabin noise. These versions are identified on the Specs page and in search results.
Connected Tire System (select OE sizes): Certain original-equipment sizes combine the Michelin Connected Tire System with Acoustic Technology. They can be recognized by Acoustic and Bluetooth logos on the sidewall and include both the foam layer and an embedded sensor that communicates tire data to the vehicle.
Cold-weather handling warning: Tires that have been exposed to 20°F (-7°C) or lower should be allowed to warm gradually to at least 40°F (5°C) for a minimum of 24 hours before being flexed in any way (including adjusting pressure, mounting, rolling, or driving). Flexing the specialized rubber compounds in cold conditions can cause permanent cracking. Because this results from improper use or storage, it isn’t covered under warranty—and any tire showing compound cracking must be replaced.
