Rivian is bringing real-time Waze alerts directly into its native navigation system starting with the upcoming 2026.31 over-the-air (OTA) update. Announced by Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid, the feature will initially roll out with speed camera and police presence reports for both R1 and R2 vehicles. Because Rivian previously transitioned its navigation to Google Maps, integrating Waze allows driver-reported crowd-sourced data to display seamlessly in the main interface without requiring a phone or Apple CarPlay. Additional hazard and traffic alerts are expected to follow in future updates.

The 2026.31 release is shaping up to be one of Rivian’s most significant software updates, as it also delivers the new RivianOS 2.0 interface overhaul to both first- and second-generation R1 vehicles. Teaser screenshots of the upcoming interface suggest that existing features like the Rivian Assistant will remain intact across vehicles, while also hinting that the voice assistant may officially expand to the R2 platform alongside the Waze navigation enhancements.
