Rivian is planning to introduce Teen Mode and Valet Mode features to its R1T, R1S, and R2 vehicle lineups in early 2027. According to details shared by Rivian's software head Wassym Bensaid, Teen Mode will be directly linked to individual driver profiles. The system can automatically apply restrictions if a teenager registers their actual age in the Rivian mobile app, or parents can manually assign specific restrictions, key fobs, or digital key cards to a teen’s profile.
The software will offer five to ten distinct customizable settings via a slider and toggle interface, allowing parents to limit overall horsepower, disable off-road driving modes, and enforce active stability control. To prevent teens from bypassing these restrictions by using standard keys, changing any profile settings will require a password. Meanwhile, Valet Mode will function as a separate feature designed to secure the vehicle's closures, allowing owners to lock access to the frunk and gloveboxes when turning the vehicle over to attendants.
