    Rivian Introduces Rivian Assistant

Rivian’s May 2026 software update introduces the "Rivian Assistant," a next-generation, AI-powered voice assistant built on the company’s new "Rivian Unified Intelligence" framework. Unlike standard voice systems that rely on rigid phrases or phone-mirroring, this assistant is deeply integrated into the vehicle’s hardware and software. It allows drivers to control core hardware functions hands-free, such as changing drive modes, adjusting ride height, and opening the front trunk, while also serving as a "resident expert" capable of answering complex troubleshooting questions from the owner’s manual.

The assistant is designed with "agentic" capabilities, meaning it can understand natural language and execute multi-step, context-aware tasks. For example, a user can ask to "make everyone's seat toasty except mine" or request the assistant to find a coffee shop near their destination and text their ETA to a contact in a single flow. The update also debuts a Google Calendar integration, enabling users to manage their schedules and navigate to meetings via voice. Currently rolling out to compatible R1 and R2 vehicles, the feature requires an active Connect+ subscription and is designed to learn personal preferences over time to provide a more tailored driving experience.
