Rivian executive Wassym Bensaid has officially confirmed that Pet Mode will be introduced to the Rivian R2 in its very next over-the-air (OTA) software update. The announcement, which included a photo of Bensaid's dog in the cabin, marks the arrival of a highly requested feature that was notably missing when the first R2 vehicles initially began arriving to customers.

The R2's Pet Mode is expected to function just like it does in the R1 vehicles. When parked with at least 50 miles of range, drivers can tap a paw icon to set a comfortable cabin temperature between 68 and 74 degrees Fahrenheit. The vehicle's main screen will also display a message to let passersby know that the animal inside is safe and comfortable.
