Rivian R1T RMAXX Gear Tunnel Dual Slide Out Trolley Sled and Storage Chests & Boxes Step-by-Step Installation Instructions

NOTE: Due to Rivian build variance, it may be necessary to adjust sled clearance to the gear tunnel door. The factory gear tunnel door hinge placement can cause the gear tunnel door surface (when open) to vary by more than 1 inch. Minor height variation can be accommodated for by using special brackets available at no cost from EV Sportline. In extreme variance cases, the door must be adjusted down to clear the gear trolley. Please reach out to geartunnelsupport@evsportline.com for assistance with this or any other issue.

    Sled Installation:

The sleds will arrive in two halves, one for the driver’s side and one for the passenger’s side. Please note that the two halves are identical and either can be installed on either side of the vehicle. Start by unpacking the sleds and locating the mounting hardware which is located in the small drawer within the sled. Extra hardware may be included.

    Tools required:

    • 4mm Allen key
    • 5mm Allen key
    • Trim removal tool (recommended) or flat head screwdriver

Start the install by opening the gear tunnel door on the Rivian and removing the plastic trim piece found along the bottom of the tunnel, just inside the door. A trim tool will make this easier, but a flat head screwdriver will also work. Pry an edge up (generally we start with the edge towards the center of the vehicle) and then use your hands to pop the panel off. This will expose the sled mounting points. Repeat on the other side of the vehicle.

Sled Assembly Method 1 - With a Friend (Recommended):

Working on a flat surface such as a garage floor, position the rear face (opposite side from the pull handle) of the two sleds up against each other and align the four mounting holes on each sled. The sled will need to be partially extended to reveal these mounting holes. Then use four of the larger included bolts (M8) and four washers to bolt to two sleds together. Two bolts will be inserted from each side.

With someone on each end, lift the gear tunnel sled for placement into the vehicle.

Insert the sled through the gear tunnel and raise the sled onto the two mounting points that were covered by the trim pieces.

IMPORTANT: When lifting the assembled sled into place, assistance will be needed. The assembled sled weighs about 130 lbs and should be team lifted.
NOTE: We recommend placing a piece of cardboard down inside the gear tunnel. This will prevent the tunnel liner from getting scratched when the sled is slid across the vehicle during installation. The front edge of the sled will be set down on the cardboard and then the cardboard + sled can be slid all the way into the gear tunnel and raised to the mounting location.

To fasten the sled to the Rivian, extend the sled on one end to expose the slots in the sled that align with the mounting points on the Rivian. Fasten the sled to the Rivian using two of the smaller bolts (M6) and washers provided. The bolts should be aligned roughly in the middle of the slots. Repeat on the other side.

With both sides attached, extend each sled fully and confirm that the sled does not contact the gear tunnel door. In rare cases there may be contact due to Rivian build variations. If you experience contact, please email geartunnelsupport@evsportline.com for further assistance.

Sled Assembly Method 2 – One Person Installation:

Lift and insert one sled into the driver’s side of the gear tunnel and then the other sled into the passenger’s side with the handles on the sleds facing out. Slide each sled inward until they meet each other in the middle of the vehicle or the until the mounting slots on the sleds rest on the Rivian mounting brackets and fully in the gear tunnel as shown below.

Slightly extend both sides of the gear sleds to fasten the four sled to sled mounting holes in the center of the vehicle. You will be able to access these mounting holes by looking through the gear tunnel access port found in the middle of the back seat of the vehicle. Using four of the larger included bolts (M8) and washers bolt the sleds to each other. Two bolts will be inserted from each side. Take care when tightening this joint as the sleds will be sitting in a slight “V” shape initially. It is important that the bolts are tightened a small amount at a time in a cross pattern to ensure that a single bolt is not carrying all of the load at any given time.

Fully extend one end of the sled to expose the slots in the sled that align with the mounting points on the Rivian. Align the slot with the mounting holes and attach the sled to the Rivian using two of the smaller bolts (M6) and washers provided. The bolts should be aligned roughly in the middle of the slots. Repeat on the other side.

With bolt sides attached, extend the sled fully and confirm that the sled does not contact the gear tunnel door. In rare cases there may be contact due to build variations on Rivians. If you experience contact, please email geartunnelsupport@evsportline.com for further assistance.

    Small Center Box (Optional):

The small Center Box (if purchased) should be installed first. Start by locating the included spacer plate that has three holes. Set the plate on the end of the chosen sled (either sled can be used) and align the three plate holes with the three threaded inserts on the sled platform.

Next, drop the box onto the sled and align three of the six holes in the box with the spacer and threaded inserts. Note that the box will hang off the end of the sled when it is in the correct location.

Using the three included screws and washers, bolt the box to the sled.

Open Top / 1 Drawer Toolbox / 3 Drawer Toolbox

Any box style can be installed on either side of the vehicle at your discretion.

Extend the sled from the vehicle and set the box onto the sled.

Note: The work surface on the Toolboxes may automatically rise.

If installing one of the Toolbox options, open the work surface and all drawers. Be careful when opening these features. Since the box is not bolted down yet, it may be unbalanced and can fall off the sled.

Locate the four mounting holes in the inside bottom of the box and align them with the four threaded inserts on the sled. Use a 4mm allen key and the four included screws and washers to bolt the box to the sled.

Close all drawers and then close the work surface. Ensure that the latch of the work surface aligns with the latch hole in the sled. Note that the work surface is designed to lock when in the open position. To close, find the release collars on the gas struts under the surface.
